Mr. Heil, in his role as a head of guidance, doubled the college-going rate in the local high school in a two year period. He was instrumental in creating a culture where disadvantaged students began to routinely think in terms of their college potential. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was in bringing Summer Search to his school and changing the way minority students viewed themselves and their peers.  Mr. Heil has been a consultant to guidance departments in several Northern California high schools.

He has also provided school psychological services to numerous small school districts in Northern California and is a PPS Credentialed School Psychologist in the State of California.
